Antigua

Welcome to one of the most amazing and interesting islands in the Caribbean. Antigua was colonized by the English early in the 1600's and the forts can still be seen around this island. Find other cultural artifacts from these important early years when you search around the island. With its charming streets and island architecture, this island offers everything from beautiful, pristine beaches to the historic old forts and more.

With an old fort and cannons that were once used by Admiral Horatio Nelson himself, the English Harbour is a must-see while you are in Antigua. The nearby St. John's area has colonial buildings that line the waterfront and more. The northwest capital of the island has a National Museum featuring unique Antigua artifacts and a twin-towered cathedral. When you want a short stay from the water, the Redcliffe Quay is a popular shopping destination to find gifts, artwork and more memories from your trip here. Also, be sure to see the market on Friday and Saturday mornings to see the fruit, crafts, fresh seafood and more that is housed in newly renovated 19th century Caribbean buildings.

The water is the biggest attraction to the Antigua Island. You can see Pigeon Beach stretch of beautiful sand and sun for swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing and more. Sail around the island to see all of the hidden coves and coasts that this island has, including the South Coast and the Green Island nearby. You can enjoy lunch on the water as you tour the coast of the Antigua or sip a cocktail or two around your own pool at your rental villa.

Betty's Hope in Antigua is a former sugar plantation that has been restored. Originally owned by the Codringtons who held the place for nearly 300 years, the museum shows how life was like on the island during this period, including showing one of the windmills and the machines that were used to extract the juices from the sugar to make rum.

Accommodation on the island of Antigua is varied from luxury private villa rentals and self catering apartments to some of the best Caribbean holiday deals for accommodation in the Caribbean. Some exclusive holiday property takes the form of luxury beachfront villas where you can while away the hours with the sound of the waves lapping the pristine beach in front of you.
