Northern Austria - Cultural
Take time to explore Vienna on foot as there are many hidden little gems in the small lanes like the fresco of the cow and the wolf playing backgammon. Once you have walked through this wonderful city you should walk around it, along the Ringstrasse which was erected between 1850 and 1900 to replace the city fortifications. Here you will find most of Vienna's famous buildings like the university, the city hall the Burgtheater (imperial theatre), the parliament building and the imperial museums to the Homburg (imperial palace), the opera house and Otto Wagner's famous Postal Savings Bank. There are many museums to visit like the Museumsquartier Vienna,
Albertina Graphic Arts Collection, the Kunsthalle, the Austrian Gallery Belvedere, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation, the Kunsthaus Liechtenstein Museum, MAK (Museum of Applied Arts), the House of Music, Mozarthaus Vienna. Everything is here for anyone who loves art, history and culture.
Linz has Austria's largest enclosed square. It is dominated by the Plague Column but also has fine examples of Baroque and Biedermeier façades like the Altes Rathaus or The Old Town Hall which also retains some earlier Renaissance elements. In Linz, like the rest of Austria you will find many cultural things to do like a visit to the new modern art gallery Lentos and the Castle Museum.
