In the 1990 conflict, most of the historic town and the old bridge were destroyed. The old bridge was recently rebuilt and many of the edifices of the old town have been restored or rebuilt with the contribution of an international scientific committee established by UNESCO. With the reconstruction of the old Bridge, the old city of Mostar became a symbol of reconciliation, international cooperation and of the coexistence of different cultures, ethnic and religious communities.
