Plovdiv

Plovdiv is nearly as large as the largest city in Bulgaria, Sofia. This historic city has a population of nearly 350,000. It is located in southern Bulgaria and is famous for its ancient and diverse cultural history. The area is full of history. There are over 200 archaeological sites in the area. It has a wide range of Roman ruins including a theatre and stadium dating back to the early second century AD. Many of the villas in the area are form this period as well and have amazing tile mosaics that are still visible and in surprisingly great condition.

Walking and hiking in the area is fun as well. The scenic views are especially enjoyable in the summer when the flowers are in bloom.
