Varna – Bulgaria - Cultural

Bulgaria is one of the most understated vacation spots in the world. Although small in size it is only slightly larger in landmass than Portugal but still smaller than North Korea. Bulgaria is bordered by five other government states: Romania to the north, Serbia and the Republic of Macedonia to the west, and Greece and Turkey to the South. Its eastern borders are lined by the waters of the Black Sea. Although small in landmass, Bulgaria is filled with about thirteen centuries of history.

The country boasts a diverse culture, as well as its profound roots in religion. Its history reflects this vividly through the grand art works and architectures. The entire country still holds remnants of ancient Balkan civilization, Byzantine civilization and Roman civilization. Ruins and remnants of antiquated settlements and fortresses found deep in the untouched hills are ideal for those seeking more enlightening and varied holiday types.

Varna is also called the marine and the summer capital of Bulgaria.  There are many places of interest to visit such as The Archaeological Museum which is housed in a building that used to be a school during the Revival. Here visitors can see models of miniature pile dwellings from the Paleolithic period, a hall of ancient arts, a hall of antique arts and one of the biggest and most impressive collections in the country; some objects and a church plate from the early ages of Christianity. The museum holds some rare objects from Egypt, Greece, Babylon and other Mediterranean countries, which were transported to ancient Odessos through the trade routes. Other places of interest are the Museum of National Revival, housed in a building from 1861, which was proclaimed a cultural monument. The Naval Museum is in the Sea Garden Park. The Vladislav Varnenchik Park Museum which was built in honour of the historical battle in 1444 when Czechs, Poles, Croatians, Hungarians and Bulgarians tried to resist the Turkish invasion in Europe. The Ethnographic Museum, a Revival house from the 19th century. Also housed here are all kinds of jewellery clothing, formal national costumes, everyday life items and goods manufactured in the city and its vicinities. Also the Museum of Nature and Science was founded in 1960 and displays species typical of the Bulgarian flora and fauna. Another great place to visit is the Museum of Art and History which has an exceptionally rich collection, one of its exhibits is the Gold Treasure of Varna which dates back 6000 years ago. The Art Gallery was opened in 1950 and holds paintings by the some outstanding Bulgarian artists as well as pieces of work by numerous foreign artists, donated to the gallery.
