Cayman Islands, Golf

Catch a wave or put your golf swing to the test when you visit the Cayman Islands. Here you will find golfing to be one of the areas greatest attractions.

The Caymans are 500 miles south of Miami and 150 miles northeast of Jamaica. A British Crown Colony, the group consists of Grand Cayman and, about 80 miles east, Little Cayman and the Cayman Brac islands. Cancun is an island connected to the mainland by two bridges. It is the site of several resorts, as well as two golf courses.

The Britannia Golf Club on Grand Cayman is the Caribbean's first signature Jack Nicklaus course, reminiscent of legendary courses such as Royal Troon, Turnberry and Royal Birkdale. The challenging and unique course offers three unique courses in one. The course can be played two different ways, either as a Championship course or as an Executive course. Off the regulation tees, it plays as a par-35, nine-hole course. Play the additional nine greens and tees, and it's a par-57, 18-hole executive course. Or tee up the revolutionary restricted-flight 'Golden Bear Cayman Ball' and play a par-71, 18-hole round. Tee opens from 8 AM till 5 PM, year round. Visitors must be aware there is a dress code.

The Links at Safehaven is a world class par 71 – 6,519 yard championship course situated directly on the north sound, near Grand Cayman. This course, rated best in the Caribbean by Golf Digest, was designed in 1994 by Roy Case. The course features five tee positions and a fascinating architectural layout with an interesting arrangement of holes. Safehaven is located on West Bay Road, close to the famous Seven-Mile Beach waters.

Golf can also be played on the Pok-Ta-Pok Golf Club course. The name comes from the Mayan language and means 'game played with a stick.' The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, and has a par of 73/74. There is a clubhouse, a pro shop and a cafeteria serving breakfast and lunch.
