Hradec Kralove - Culture
Since the start of the 20th century, the ancient city of Hradec Kralove has grown and developed into a new urban centre. The elegant, wide boulevards in the city were designed by Josef Gocár, a famous Prague architect. Today they are lined with thriving greenery. The city also has several spacious and well landscaped parks to complement the residential housing blocks. Each year, the city of Hradec Králové comes alive during the traditional festival called the “Theatre of the European Regions”. The multi ethnic festival is one of the most remarkable aspects of theatre culture in this Czech town. Actors come from all over the world to perform during the festival. Performances are held daily and are open to the public.
The Puppet Theatre Drak represents another excellent the theatre experience in Hradec Králové. Its performances are intended for children and adults. Performances are held on Saturdays and at various other times. The city of Hradic Kralove also has cinemas and a number of other performance houses. There also is an active Academic cinematographic club at the University of Hradec Králové. There also is a Municipal Music Hall. The Congress Centre in Aldis is a traditional base for many great festivities, symposiums, seminars, balls and concerts. Each year there is a major jazz festival at this location. The professional ensemble Filharmonie Hradec Králové and their guests perform concerts several times a week in this city. You can also hear chamber and symphonic music in many of the sacred and historical buildings in the city. There also is a vibrant night life with discos, rock clubs and a folk music district.
