Rhineland-Palatinate is a region which is full of culture. Visitors can get a close encounter with the area's rich culture by visiting the region's famous museums or by enjoying a fine arts performance.

The Cathedral and Diocesan Museum in Mainz is located in St. Martin's Cathedral, a famous cathedral dating from A.D. 975. The museum features a collection of religious art, including reliquaries, medieval sculpture, and works by the Master of Naumburg. The cathedral's 1,000-year-old crypt contains a contemporary gold reliquary of the saints of Mainz. The sanctuary contains beautiful furnishings including rococo choir stalls and a 14th-century pewter baptismal font.

The Gutenberg Museum is a memorial to Johannes Gutenberg, the city's most famous citizen and inventory of the hand press. The museum is home to Gutenberg's rebuilt workshop where he built the world's first hand press and printed a Bible from 1452 to 1455. The museum features collections including graphic art, printing, illustration and binding. Two Gutenberg Bibles are the museum's most popular exhibits.

The Rheinische Philharmonie Orchestra performs in the Rhein-Mosel-Halle in Mainz . The City Theatre, located in Grossehaus, presents dramas, comedies, and musicals from September to June.

The Wine Museum in Speyer depicts the way the Romans produced their wine. Visitors to the Wine Museum can view the world's oldest bottle of wine, dating from A.D. 300. The museum also features exhibits including objects found in the tombs of former emperors and the Golden Hat of Schifferstadt, dating from the Bronze Age.

The Museum of Technology is located in a former 1913 aircraft hanger, and includes exhibits featuring airplanes, locomotives, vintage automobiles, fire engineers and automatic musical instruments. Visitors can tour the inside of a 20 ton U boat that was once used to target Allied shipping in the Atlantic.
