Thuringia - Culture
Thuringia is home to many museums displaying the region’s unique culture. Visitors can tour the city’s museums and their architecture. Many of the area museums are dedicated to famous Germans from the area, including Johann Bach, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Martin Luther.
We offer vacation properties to those visiting the Thuringia area. Visitors can enjoy the at one of our houses, cabins, apartments or villas. Many properties include Jacuzzi tubs and saunas with some properties including a private barbeque area for informal dining. Maid service is also available for a small additional fee at many locations.
Erfurt is home to many churches featuring beautiful historical architecture. At the Church of St. Severi in Erfurt, visitors can enjoy the church and its five naves. The church is home to an amazing font which features elaborately carved sandstone. The church is also home to a sarcophagus of the saint dating from approximately 1365. A 70-step staircase takes visitors to the neighboring Dom, a Gothic church featuring 14th-century stained glass windows. The Dom’s interior features an elaborate baroque style, with a Romanesque 11th-century altar of the Virgin and the 13th-century tombstone of the count of Gleichen and his two wives.
The city of Eisenach is the birthplace of the famous composer Johann Sebastian Bach. At Bachhaus, visitors can see many artifacts of the Bach family, including a collection of historical musical instruments. The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. More information is available online at www.bachhaus.de.
Eisenach is also home to Lutherhaus, the place where Martin Luther stayed as a schoolboy. Lutherhaus features exhibits displaying Martin Luther’s life. The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. More information is available online at www.lutherhaus-eisenach.de.
The Goethe Nationalmuseum in Weimar is the place where Johann Wolfgang von Goethe lived from 1782 until 1832. The house features beautiful baroque-German architecture. The house contains 14 rooms full of exhibits, with many rooms still the way Goethe and his wife left them. The house’s library contains more than 5,000 books. Goethe’s mineral and art collections are also on display.
