Eastern Crete's Archaeological Museum holds many of the treasures discovered at the excavations at the Palace of Knossos. Among the museum's exhibits are the famous seal stones with Linear B script, ancient frescoes found in Knossos, ancient metalworks and carved vases.
The palace of Knossos was home to King Minos, who was said to keep a Minotaur in an underground maze. The palace features a large central court, a throne room with the oldest throne in Europe, and a grand staircase fashioned from gypsum.

Krista is home to the Panayia Kera, a church with an usual shape, which features three naves supported by heavy triangular buttresses. The church was built in the early years of Venetian occupation, and it contains beautiful hand painted frescoes from the 13th century.

The Palace of Phaistos in Western Crete is a great Minoan palace built around 1900 BC and rebuilt after a earthquake destroyed much of the structure in 1650 BC. The palace is surrounded by beautiful olive groves and is near the sea and mountains.
Hania's western beaches feature silky white sand and turquoise waters, and are rarely crowded. Visitors can also explore the nearby villages along the Libyan Sea. In the summer months, a boat service operates along the southwest coast, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery on the water.
