Thessaly - Luxury

Thessaly is the site of Mt. Olympus, home of the gods.  With the region’s beautiful green fields, majestic mountain peaks, red poppies, and white and pink flowering trees, it is easy to see why.  Visitors can enjoy the areas scenery as well as its historic monasteries.

For those looking to experience Thessaly while living in luxury, we offer vacation properties at a reasonable price.  Visitors can enjoy the luxurious rooms and amenities at one of our houses, villas or apartments.  Many properties include Jacuzzi tubs and a pool.  Many properties include a private barbeque area for informal dining.  Maid service is also available for a small additional fee at many locations.

Kalambaka is home to the Dormition of the Virgin.  The church has paleo-Christian features, including a center aisle and a Roman-basilica style.  The cathedral also includes 16th-century frescoes and a marble baldachin in the sanctuary.  Behind the church visitors can see boxes of bones that have been disinterred and washed in accordance with Orthodox tradition.

Meteora is the home of many monasteries, which sit on rock pinnacles rising 984 feet above the nearby Peneus Valley.  Only six of Meteora’s monasteries are open to visitors.  The monastery of Ayios Nikolaos Anapafsas was built in 1388 and features 16th-century frescoes by Theophanis Strelitzas.  The Ayia Moni monastery is shrouded in mystery.  The monastery is inaccessible and has actually been deserted since an earthquake in 1858.  Locals believe that the area is haunted.

The Ayia Barbara features colorful gardens and red- and gray-stone walls, making this monastery great for taking pictures.  The Megalo Meteoro is built of large stones and contains the cell where St. Athanasios once lived.  Varlaam sits on top of a ravine and visitors must climb its 195 steps to reach it.  The church’s 16-century frescoes depict vivid scenes from the life of John the Baptist.

Kassaros Travel offers guided tours of parts of Thessaly.  In summer, the company offers tours of the countryside in an off-road vehicle starting at fifteen euros.  During the winter month, the company offers a snowmobile tour starting at 100 euros.
