Northern Hungary is home to Aggtelek National Park. This park contains, the Baradla Cave, a World Heritage Sight and one of Europe's largest stalactite caves. According to scientists, this is one of the world's most wonderful geographic phenomena. Tours are conducted daily from the three different entrances into the cave. The Cave Museum presents the history of the caves intriguing limestone.
Another interesting cave is located in the town of Miskolctapolca, surrounded by thermal waters the water is very rich in minerals. Combined with the crystalline air of the cave, they have a healing effect on heart and vascular, rheumatic and respiratory disorders. Bathing here is an awesome experience. You will enjoy special light effects, an underground stream and the amazing natural bubble bath. Boating is allowed on the upper lake.
Hungary is known as the land of the healing waters. Hungary has more than 1,000 hot springs and enough spa facilities to accommodate over 300,000 people at the same time. These spas are located all over the country , in big cities and in smaller towns. Thermal waters from different springs vary in terms of the ailments they benefit. Budapest alone has more than 30 thermal springs. Other spas are located in the towns of Buk, Balf, Debrecan and Gyula.
Another place to visit in this great region is Hollókő, a beautiful little village secluded among the ridges of the Cserhát Mountains. This quaint village has remarkably preserved its medieval structure. It is a living museum village, the first village to be included by UNESCO on the World Heritage List of protected sites. There are several exhibits here, the Weaving House, the House of Crafts and the Village Museum, just to name a few. Visitors will also want to tour the 13th century castle on the hill next to the village. It offers a wonderful panoramic view.
The nearby village of Parádfürdő has many items of interest. Vidsit the Fancy Stable, a 17th century horse stable covered with red marble. Also investigate the Coach Museum which offers a great collection from the world famous Hungarian carriage making industry. Parádsasvár also is famous for its Parad Medicinal Waters. The therapeutic water is used mainly for the healing of many ailments including gynecological disorders. This drinking water also helps heal respiratory and gastric complaints. The Parad also has a unique collection of famous decorative glass-works dating back to the middle of the 18th century. Parad is one of the oldest thermal resorts of the country. The people here often wear colourful folk costumes which are typified by a characteristic fabric hood, which is woven in a rich set of patterns. The 200 year old Palóc House presents the life of the Palóc folk art. Also on display are many unique wood carvings.
