Jamaica - Golf
Take your next golf trip to beautiful Jamaica, where the scenery is splendid and the weather is pleasant all year. Golfing on the island of Jamaica is a relaxed sport. You can generally get onto a course without booking in advance. Although there are only a few courses, each one has its own distinct appeal. Jamaica is also known its fine customer service.
Manchester Club is the Caribbean's oldest golf course. This 9-hole paradise is in Mandeville. It is set in luxurious rolling hills, on the islands southern coast. Golfers of all skill levels will find this course well worth a visit. Sandals Golf and Country Club, on the north coast, is another great spot. This golf area, formerly known as the Upton Country Club, was revamped and brought back to amazing quality about two years ago.
Diligent management has also brought the Tryall Golf Course back to par in the past few years. Located in Montego Bay, this 18-hole course is now in world class form. It features a second driving range and other practice facilities. Tryall stretches 6,772 yards from the sea up into tree covered hills, past coconut groves and back down to the ocean. This course was constructed around an 18th century estate.
Like Tryall, the Half Moon Golf Course has an international reputation and has been home to many professional golf tournaments. It is a Robert Trent Jones design, built in 1961. The course is flat, but long. It consists of 7,115 yards and it is subject to constant winds. Nine holes play toward the hefty wind, nine against. Deep bunkers on the generally wide greens are the major obstacles. The second shot is a particular challenge as it must carry a group of bunkers or fly over the bunkers onto a smooth green.
