Northern Ireland

Residing in the North eastern corner of Ireland, Northern Ireland was created after the partition of the island in 1921 and is made up of six counties and contains some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe. The six counties were part of the ancient kingdom of Ulster, one of Ireland’s four traditional kingdoms.

Northern Ireland is home to a diverse topography of vivid coastline, undulating fields and the lush Mountains of Mourne which sweep down to the sea. The coast of Antrim, one of the most beautiful shorelines in Britain, offers a fantastic ‘drive by’ view of the Glens, where the more adventurous could hike deep into the Glens before heading to the East to walk along the volcanic columns of the Giant’s Causeway.

When heading inland, travellers will find many hidden treasures, including historic towns, ancient sights, forest parks, lakes and mountains and Northern Ireland’s capital Belfast. This vivacious city is full of dramatic and imposing Victorian public buildings and monuments. At the heart of the city is Donegall Square home to the magnificent City Hall and intriguing shopping. Belfast boasts a wonderful collection of museums, art galleries and a theatrical, rich in character lifestyle and culture from the grand opera to the more informal traditional music and an eclectic nightlife. Belfast is a must see. Key attractions in Belfast include the Linen Hall Library, the late Victorian Grand Opera House and Belfast’s most famous pub the Crown Liquor Saloon which dates back to the 1880s. Be sure to visit the Belfast Cathedral in Donegall Street, the Ulster Museum and the Botanic Gardens to the south of the city.
