Eastern Poland-Luxury

Eastern Poland is probably most famous for the capital city of Warsaw. Warsaw is a deeply historical city, as well as being modern and cultured. It hosts twenty-seven museums, and twenty theatres. Quite a few prominent cultural events, including the International Chopin Piano Competition, and the annual Warsaw Autumn Modern Music Festival are held there as well.

A short drive from the Warsaw international airport is the breathtaking Lazienki Park. You will not want to miss viewing this palace on the water. Also very worthwhile is the International Festival of Street Theatres, held every year in July. The festival convenes in Krakow, but can be seen throughout Poland and Germany. While in Eastern Poland you will also want to see Lancut. Lancut is a 17th century palace that has been rebuilt in the new French Baroque style. It, and the museums it houses, is well worth the trip.

If skiing is your passion, drive down to the Tatra Mountains' resort town of Zakopane. If you ever tire of skiing, or if you plan to visit Zakopane in the summertime, take a cable car to Mount Gubalowka to enjoy a breathtaking view of the valley. If you are still in search of adventure, spend a day rafting down the Dunajec River in Pieniny Mountains National Park. A tour guide will enable you to safely enjoy this sport.

Now that you have worked up quite an appetite, you can either head down to Krakow, or back to Warsaw for some very tempting cuisine. Eastern Poland is a wealth of four and five star restaurants. The top three restaurants in Warsaw are the Belvedere, The Boathouse, and Bazyliszek. In Krakow, dine at Metropolitan, Chimera, or Ariel.

Currently, Krakow is the most popular city with tourists, with Warsaw running a close second. Keep this in mind when choosing your accommodation. Luxuries like saunas are pools are more easily found when looking in houses and apartments in these cities, and Krakow offers the renowned Ambra Day Spa. If the luxury you seek is serene solitude, you may want to choose a cabin in a smaller surrounding town.
