Game Shooting

Driven Game Shooting

Is the more formal style of game shooting and is usually restricted to pheasant, partridge and grouse shooting. A day out drive game shooting is normally undertaken by teams of between 8 and 10. Each team of shooters lines up alongside numbered pegs. Following this a team of beaters and their dogs, under careful instruction from a gamekeeper, navigate their way through woodland areas alerting the game ahead of them.

The aim is to get the birds to break cover and fly high over the line of shooters to provide sporting shots. Once shot the game is quickly retrieved by a trained gundog which easily locates where the game falls.

Rough Shooting

This is the most common form of the sport, shooters use trained dogs (typically Labradors or Spaniels) to force the game out of the woods or hedgerows. Once game has been identified and shot the dogs retrieve the game. Game shooting tests your knowledge of the countryside and hunting skills while providing exercise for yourself and the dogs, as well as the chance to enjoy the outdoors.
