Balearic Islands
There is much more to the Balearics that their famous nightlife. With their warm Mediterranean climate, attractive landscape and wonderful beaches, it’s no surprise that they are the most popular tourist destination in Spain.
The largest island, Majorca also has a rich history with megalithic, roman and greek monuments. Palma de Majorca is the capital of the islands and has half Majorca’s population – so head inland from the beaches to find peaceful plains and mountains.
Menorca is virtually all coast and relatively less developed for tourism than the other islands.
Ibiza is bathed in almost perpetual sunshine. If you can fight your way through the hordes of nightclubbers, the town of Ibiza has a fine 17th century cathedral as well as beautiful 16th century walls.
Formentera, with its attractive white buildings and beaches, is accessible only by ferry from Ibiza.
Eat shrimps and lobster, pastries and nougat.
