Wales
Wales is a country full of exceptional beauty and rich in history. Its diverse landscape, mountain peaks, rolling moorlands, forests and miles of untamed coastline with far-reaching beaches make Wales a beautiful holiday destination.
Wales is a historic land of castles and mountains and has a strong national identity distinctly evident in the survival and modern day use of Welsh, one of Europe’s oldest languages.
South Wales integrates the capital of Wales - Cardiff, the cities of Swansea and Newport, Carmarthen Bay and two national parks, Pembrokeshire Coastand Brecon Beacons.
Cardiff features innovative architecture and historical buildings nestled in the buzz of a busy city and is the perfect place to experience the Welsh culture of dragons and myths which blend seamlessly with this modern city. Key attractions include Cardiff Castle, the neoclassical City Hall dominated by its dome and clock tower as well as the Crown Building which now houses the Welsh Office responsible for Welsh governmental affairs.
Swansea is at the heart of South Wales and aptly entitled ‘city by the sea’ is the perfect destination for outdoor activities. The coastline is a wonderful surfing destination and perfect for water skiing. The seductive coastlines includes Nash Point near Llantwit Major on the Vale of Galmorgan coast which displays extraordinary rock surfaces while the Gower Peninsula has magnificent bays and cliffs. Pembrokeshire is a fantastic remote destination for seaside holidays without the commercialised atmosphere of traditional resorts.
Highlights of mid-Wales include the Cambrian Mountains and the attractive coastal resorts of Cardigan Bay. If it is green hills, mountains and wonderfully fresh air you’re after mid-Wales is the place to visit. Full of traditional market towns and ancient pathways the area is perfect for daytime strolls. The enticing landscape is suitable for a range of activities including water sports, bird watching, cycling, mountain biking, golf and fishing to name a few.
North Wales is home to many popular seaside resorts including Rhyl, Prestatyn, Llandudno and the delightful Snowdonia National Park, with magnificent scenery ranging from rugged mountain terrain to moors and beaches and is a well known destination for hikers, in particular Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales.
From the arts to its musical heritage and the Welsh Choir, or the tongue twisting town names and the mythic legends coupled with story telling tradition and breath taking views, Wales has something for everyone.
